Case Study in Psoriasis

Psoriasis is chronic skin problem that has been related to overacting immune system and inflammation. In psoriasis skin cells form thick red, white or silvery patches of different size appearingoften on the knees, elbows, back, hands, feet or scalp. This problem is most common in adults and in some cases runs in families. In many advanced cases psoriasis is heard to treat and treatment may continue for a lifetime.

The Study

Psoriasis is an autoimmune, chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by thickened, red skin with silvery scaled patches. These patches typically occur on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. Although the exact cause of psoriasis is not clear, it is not a contagious disease. Psoriasis affects 2-3% of the world’s population, and men and women between the ages of 15 and 45 are equally affected.

Normally, the skin cells are produced and replaced every three to four weeks. However, in psoriasis the skin cell production occurs much more rapidly than the body’s ability to shed the cells. Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, wherein the body’s white blood cells (T lymphocytes) attack the skin cells and trigger an inflammatory response. The lymphocytes release cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), which promote inflammation and accelerate the growth of the skin cells resulting in formation of “psoriatic plaques” which are scaly white and itchy skin patches at the site of inflammation.

Psoriasis is a chronic condition with periods of mild to severe symptoms. Certain factors can increase the onset of psoriasis. Stress, hormonal changes, smoking, alcohol consumption, being overweight, recurring throat or skin infections treated with strong antibiotics, medications used to treat high blood pressure, anti-malarial drugs, and over-the-counter painkiller drugs can increase the risk of a psoriasis episode.

In addition to the tremendous social and psychological impact, heart disease, diabetes and cancer are few of the complications of long standing psoriasis. In about 20% of the patients with psoriasis a complication - psoriatic arthritis - is sometimes diagnosed even before diagnosing psoriasis. A deficiency of folic acid (an essential nutrient for optimum nerve function) is common in patients with psoriasis. Currently, psoriasis does not have a satisfactory cure available and a patient requires lifelong management of the symptoms with multiple medications (which also have added side effects).

Our institute recently published a very impressive case report of a 36-year-old woman who had suffered from severe psoriasis since she was 221. The disease was present everywhere but on the face and the patient had been using topical creams for 14 years with no significant improvement. While continuing her usual treatment, the patient improved her dietary habits, and started taking a specific micronutrient combination that included vitamin C, lysine, proline, and other essential daily micronutrients in synergistic proportions. Increased intake of the micronutrients helped to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, and improved the body’s immune response. In the second month of taking the micronutrients, the patient started noticing the psoriatic patches on the upper half of her body were healing. Improvement continued and although the leg lesions were the last to heal, at the end of six months the patient reported complete healing of all the psoriatic plaques.

While there is no satisfactory cure available as a treatment for psoriasis, such dramatic results with safe and effective micronutrients may be a ray of hope for thousands of psoriasis sufferers.

Clinical Studies in Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a disease in which the subject hears ringing, whistling, knocking or similar sounds in the ears. The intensity of these sounds varies from light to unbearable. Quite often it leads to a significant hearing loss. Over 100 million people worldwide suffer from this hearing problem.

The origins of this disease are largely unknown to traditional medicine and, therefore, no therapy for its underlying causes exists. This “incurable” ringing in the ears may last for years or sometimes decades, and can lead to social isolation. Some patients find these sounds so unbearable that they are driven to suicide.

Aim of the StudyAim of the Study

This pilot study has been designed to scientifically document the effects of vitamin treatment therapy in patients suffering from tinnitus. This study was conducted in collaboration with Ear, Nose & Throat specialists. ...hide content

Study DesignStudy Design

A total of 18 patients, ranging in age from 44-85 years old and suffering from chronic tinnitus (ear ringing for more than three consecutive months), took part in the study. The patients took a daily dosage of specific vitamins for four months. They continued to take the medications prescribed by their physicians.

The patients’ hearing was measured at regular monthly intervals using a standard medical sound audiometer. The hearing improvement achieved after four months of following vitamin intake is documented below. ...hide content

Study ResultsStudy Results

After only four months of taking vitamins and other micronutrients, patients experienced the following hearing improvements:

1) In 30% of patients, hearing improved slightly (up to 10 dB).

2) In 45% of patients, hearing improved clearly ( up to10-20 dB).

3) In 25% of patients, hearing improved strongly (up to 20-50dB), which is near normal hearing ability.

More than three-fourths of the patients experienced at least some reduction in ear ringing. For more than 50% of them, ear ringing was significantly reduced or completely eliminated. ...hide content

Clinical Studies in Periodontosis

The term periodontosis describes an infectious form of disease in the tooth socket. As with any other infection, diagnosis is determined by symptoms that include swelling, reddening and bleeding gums, and retraction of gums with a significant loss of soft tissue or bone tissue in the tooth socket.

In the 20th century, periodontosis, like cavities, has become a virtually epidemic disease in dentistry.

This pilot study has been designed to scientifically document the effects of a specific vitamin treatment in patients with symptoms of periodontosis. ...hide content

Study DesignStudy Design

Nine patients with typical symptoms of chronic periodontosis took part in the study. All of them were aware of the importance of optimal oral hygiene. The patients took a daily dosage of vitamins and other nutrients for three months. The most important component of these nutrients was vitamin C. As a diagnostic measurement of the progression of periodontosis, the “Bleeding-on-Probing” method (BoP), which is widely used in the assessment of this disease, was utilized. ...hide content

Study ResultsStudy Results

All study participants displayed similar outcomes with the vitamin treatment. The first significant changes were measurable four to six weeks after the beginning of the study.

Before the vitamin therapy, the average BoP value was 60%, which corresponds to a very advanced gum infection. From the sixth week, a clear reduction of gum bleeding was evident and by the eighth week, the average BoP had fallen to 14%. After twelve weeks (the end of the three-month pilot study), the average decrease of gum bleeding was estimated at 85%.

In addition, a significant improvement in gum firmness was noted, as was a reduction in visible vascularization, which indicated s a significant reduction of the previously spongy gum tissue fragments of beet-red color. Additional beneficial health effects were spontaneously reported by many patients, including improvement in overall physical condition and vitality. ...hide content

Clinical Studies in High Blood Pressure

Several hundred million people worldwide suffer from high blood pressure, the most common of all cardiovascular conditions. In more than 90 percent of the cases, the diagnosis by conventional medicine is “essential hypertension,” that is, hypertension due to unknown causes. Conventional medicine is, therefore, largely confined to treating the symptoms of hypertension without correcting the primary underlying cause, which is a “spasm” of the blood vessel wall triggered by deficiency of specific bioenergy nutrients in millions of blood vessel wall cells.

Aim of the StudyAim of the Study

Numerous reports from patients following the cellular nutrient program have shown that this program can be effective in alleviating high blood pressure conditions. This pilot study was undertaken to confirm these reports. ...hide content

Study DesignStudy Design

Fifteen subjects diagnosed with high blood pressure, ranging in age between 32-69, took part in the study over a period of four months. The patients took a daily dosage of cellular nutrients, and they also continued to take the medication prescribed by their doctors.

The patients’ blood pressure was measured at bi-weekly intervals for the four-month period of the study to ensure complete documentation of the results. Blood pressure was measured both on the right and the left upper arm. The value of these measurements in each case was used for the evaluation of the efficacy of the vitamin treatment. ...hide content

Study ResultsStudy Results

At the beginning of the study, all of the patients had elevated systolic and diastolic blood pressure values. The average systolic blood pressure value at the beginning of the study was on average 167. The average diastolic blood pressure value was 97.

After 32 weeks of the study, the blood pressure of all patients improved. At the end of the study, patients had an average systolic blood pressure reading of 142 and an average diastolic blood pressure reading of 83. These readings were 15% and 16% lower, respectively, than the measurements taken at the beginning of the study. These results were achieved without any side effects.

The cellular nutrient program helped to normalize blood pressure without causing a too-low blood pressure situation. This is another advantage of nutrients over conventional medicine, where overdosing frequently leads to decreased blood circulation, dizziness, and other health problems.  ...hide content

Clinical Studies in Heart Failure

Tens of millions of people suffer from heart failure, resulting in shortness of breath, edema, and fatigue. The origins of this disease are largely unknown to traditional medicine and, therefore, no therapy for its underlying causes exists.

Aim of the StudyAim of the Study

Cellular Health™ opens up the possibility of effective prevention and treatment of heart failure through the targeted use of micronutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. These micronutrients help improve cellular bioenergy levels. Suboptimal bio-energy production in the heart muscle is the most common cause of impaired heart function and heart failure.

The first study results with micronutrients in patients with heart failure are documented below. ...hide content

Study DesignStudy Design

Ten patients between the ages of 41-68 years old and with heart failure took part in a pilot study conducted over a period of six months. The patients took a daily dosage of specific micronutrients. They continued to take the medications prescribed by their physicians. The degree of heart failure was documented for every patient, using standards set by the New York Heart Association (NYHA scale).

At the beginning of the study, seven out of 10 patients suffered extensive impairment of cardiovascular health (Class 3 on the NYHA scale). Three patients reported moderate limitation of their physical activity (Class 2 on the NYHA scale).

Heart failure classification according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA):
Class 1 = No problems with normal physical activity
Class 2 = Moderate limitation of physical activity
