U.S. health officials are teaming up with insurance companies, pharmacies, health providers and community groups in a campaign to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes over five years. Comments: Initiated by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) and supported by pharmacies, hospitals and insurances nationwide, the “Million Hearts” project is indeed a very commendable step taken by the US health officials. The mission is to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes in the United States over the next five years. As mentioned in the article, every year more than two million Americans have a heart attack or stroke and 800,000 of them die because of it, making it the leading cause of deaths. Moreover, $444 billion is wasted annually in medical bills and lost productivity related to cardiovascular diseases. Therefore it is of utmost importance to focus on this public health problem. Unfortunately though, the steps to achieve this goal are mostly misguided. Raising awareness of easily preventable risk factors, e.g., smoking cessation and promoting healthy diet choices are probably the only right steps in this mission. Most of the program however, focuses on drugs such as increased use of aspirin, blood pressure and cholesterol-lowering medications and even smoking cessation drugs. In one of the The New England Journal of Medicine articles, it states, “high risk patients should reduce their risk of heart attack or stroke by taking appropriate doses of daily aspirin. Treating high blood pressure and high cholesterol substantially reduces mortality among high-risk patients. And smoking-cessation advice from clinicians doubles the likelihood of a successful quit attempt, and the use of medications increases quit rates further.” And, in fact to make it easier for people to remember this, the US department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has created an easy mnemonic: “Focus on ABCS: Aspirin for people at risk, Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management, and Smoking cessation.” All these steps focus only on more prescription drugs, and all of these drugs have quite dangerous and life threatening side effects. All of them deplete the pool of vital nutrients from the circulation, further increasing the dangers to the heart. Every type of anti-hypertensive and cholesterol reducing drug is known to diminish the body’s sources of coenzyme Q-10, calcium, potassium, magnesium, the B group of vitamins, folic acid, vitamin C and E, zinc and others. These nutrients play a crucial role in preserving cardiovascular health, including maintenance of normal cholesterol and blood pressure, heart rhythm and so on. Approximately two decades ago following his breakthrough discovery, Dr. Rath initiated efforts to eradicate heart disease. Based on his revolutionary research outlined in “Solution to the Puzzle of Cardiovascular Disease” and “Unified Theory of Cardiovascular Disease Leading to the Abolition of this Disease”, Dr. Rath was issued a patent from the US patent office for natural prevention and reversal of cardiovascular disease in 1992. It was the first time that heart disease was related to vitamin deficiency and, in fact, was termed as an early form of scurvy. Dr. Rath also established that cholesterol is not the cause but a consequence of already existing cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the primary measure for lowering cholesterol is to stabilize the artery walls with appropriate nutrients. Unfortunately, none of these principles are used in the “Million Hearts Project.” While noteworthy, the “Million Hearts Project” claims to raise health literacy and focuses on prevention, while it ignores altogether the important causes of heart disease. Dr. Rath’s innovative Cellular Medicine approach focuses on easy ways of prevention, reduction and eventual eradication of heart disease. Instead of the drug oriented ABCS proposed by the HHS, Dr. Rath’s research outlines the ABCS of Cellular Medicine: Arterial wall health, Bioenergy to heart muscle cells, Collagen stability, and Synergistic Nutrients!
