June 27, 2007 - Long-term supplementation with vitamin C may one day help prevent diabetic retinopathy, the most common diabetic eye disease, if preliminary results from animals can be reproduced in humans. The new study, published in the Elsevier journal, Microvascular Research, compared the effects of vitamin C supplementation on the development of diabetes retinopathy and found significant improvements in markers of eye health.

Diabetes Drug Costs Could Soar 70 Pct by '09: Report
May 17, 2007 - A growing diabetes epidemic and more aggressive treatment with combination drug therapies could result in a rise of nearly 70 percent in drug spending on the disease through 2009, according to a report released by Medco Health Solutions Inc. Medco's 2007 Drug Trend Report found diabetes treatments trailing only cholesterol medications in total prescription drug spending growth in 2006.

This pilot study demonstrates that supplementation with a combination of chromium picolinate and biotin in poorly controlled patients with diabetes receiving anti-diabetic therapy improved glucose management and several lipid measurements.
